Founded in 2011, Harlem Grown is an independent, non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire youth to lead healthier, more ambitious lives through mentorship and hands-on education in urban farming, sustainability, and nutrition.

We transform vacant property into urban farms and greenhouses, and use urban farming as a platform to not only empower Harlem youth to improve their nutrition and wellness, but to create better educational and economic opportunities within their community.

Healthy habits start young, which is why our programs target elementary-aged students. And because food justice is more than just providing and distributing food, our model seeks to positively impact the entire community through mentorship, job training, and partnerships to create sustainable change.

To fulfill our mission, we raise funds to renovate abandoned lots throughout Harlem, transforming them into thriving, green urban farms. If you have a property in Harlem that could be a wonderful farm, please contact us at
